Mul-Mung
Indoor water fountain

"잠에 들기가 너무 힘들어. 불면증인가봐."
Motivation
In today's modern society, many people struggle with sleep disorders and concentration difficulties due to stress.
Water is commonly known to help alleviate stress. Some find solace by traveling to the beach or waterfalls, while others turn to ASMR recordings with calming water sounds. Is there a way to experience these benefits indoors, without having to travel or rely on recorded sounds?

Design
Inspiration
I drew inspiration from a fountain that has water falling from top to bottom and designed this product. It features a simple and elegant design, making it suitable as an interior decoration piece.
Divided into three sections for ease of management, the structure includes designated areas for the pump and LED. To mitigate the risk of water contact, the LED is encapsulated with an acrylic panel at the top, and a cover with a rubber seal is created at the bottom.

A small pump is used in this product to draw water up through a tube at the top, allowing it to cascade down. The middle section features holes at both ends to aid in water drainage and circulation. An adjustable pump is installed to control the flow of water. Below the falling water, LED lighting creates a dynamic interplay of light.

How to use?

Filled the bottom bucket with water

assembled it with the pump

turned on the power to operate

Water falls, lights dance as it meets LEDs.
Iterations
01
Status : 1 lamp, 3 drainage holes, low-height
Problem :
The waterproofing issue with the light holes and the inability to secure the pump due to a design flaw in the pump mounting area.
02
Status : 1 lamp, 3 drainage holes, low-height
Problem :
Occasional overflow due to poor drainage.
Solution :
Adjustment of drainage angle and addition of drainage holes for faster drainage
03
Status : 3 LED, 5 drainage holes, low-height
Problem :
Drains too Quickly, No Lighting Effect. Partial Leakage Occurred.
Solution :
Reduced the Number of Drain Holes.

What I've Learned
The product development process included extensive adjustments, repeated testing, and unexpected challenges. Despite these difficulties, the project provided valuable opportunities to learn and apply 3D modeling and printing skills like AutoCAD and Fusion 360. It also has the potential to expand into multifunctional items like humidifiers and pet water dispensers, enhancing versatility and interaction options.
